Shannon Matthews Is Found
Missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has been found alive in the Dewsbury area of West Yorkshire 24 days after she disappeared.
Police smashed their way into a flat in Lidgate Gardens in Batley Carr and emerged carrying Shannon, neighbours said.

Shannon Matthews
The young girl looked "quite calm" and officers confirmed she was OK.
A local resident, who did not want to give her name, said: "One of my neighbours heard banging.
"When he went outside, police were breaking the door down - the man wouldn't come out so they broke in. Apparently they found her in bed."
The neighbour believed the man who occupied the flat where Shannon was found lived alone and had children who had been taken into care.
She added: "We haven't seen him for two or three years. But apparently he's come back."
The woman who lives downstairs from him tipped off police after hearing footsteps, she said.
Earlier reports claimed the little girl was found hiding under a bed in a her grandparents' home.
Police had been searching for the nine-year-old for over three weeks.
The youngster has now been taken to a police station where she will be reunited with her mother.
Sky's north of England correspondent Gerard Tubb said: "I only know that she is alive but I wasn't given any impression that she was harmed.
"They've got her, they're very excited."
Shannon failed to return home from school after a swimming trip on February 19.

Mother Karen Matthews
The schoolgirl's aunt Amanda Hyett said Shannon's mother Karen Matthews had been driven away by police from the family home shortly before 2pm.
Former Scotland Yard detective, Mike Hames, told Sky police "always thought she was being kept away from home by someone that knows her".
"It is quite rare that you would find a child alive after all this time," he added.
Earlier this week, Ms Matthews, 32, a mother-of-seven from Dewsbury, West Yorks, said: "She got abducted. That's all I can say."
Asked if someone she knew was responsible, she said: "It seems that way because there's no trace of her at all.
"There's no trace of her swimming costume, her towel or anything like that that she's taken with her."
Shannon had been dressed in a black jumper with a school logo, a white cotton T-shirt, black trousers and a waist-length black coat with fur round the hood.
One national newspaper offered a £50,000 reward for information about her disappearance.
Police searched more than 200 homes and received over 300 calls from the public in their extensive investigation.
Friends and neighbours also distributed leaflets appealing for information about Shannon's whereabouts across West Yorkshire.
Hi Brian,

Shannon: Schoolgirl found

Shannon has been missing since February 19
MISSING Dewsbury schoolgirl Shannon Matthews is belived to have been been found alive in West Yorkshire.
The nine-year-old disappeared three weeks ago after a school swimming lesson.
No details have emerged as yet as to the circumstances of today's events.
Hundreds of police and residents have been involved in the search for the schoolgirl in what became West Yorkshire Police's largest investigation since the Ripper Inquiry of the 1970s.
Officers and specialist teams from across the north of England have been involved.
Leading detectives had said they were gravely concerned for the youngster's safety because there had been no sightings of her since the afternoon she went missing.
Among the homes searched by officers with specialist dogs trained to identify blood and human remains were those of sex offenders living in the Dewsbury area.
As part of the investigation, a complete fingerprint and DNA profile of the nine-year-old had been compiled, using samples taken from her home. This was to have helped pinpoint detectives to where she had been, whether voluntarily or against her will.

Hi Brian,
FANTASTIC NEWS!
Breaking news on SKY - Shannon Matthews has been found alive and well in a house only a mile away from her home 24 days after she went missing! A 39 year old man has been arrested at the property. Apparently police doing routine searches in the area knocked at the door but got no reply, when they talked to neighbours they said that nobody had come out of the house so they must be still inside. The police then decided to break down the door and upon doing so and searching the house they found Shannon and the 39 year old man hidden in drawers beneath a divan bed. Shannon is being cared for by West Yorkshire police and has not yet been re-united with her mum. Apparently the man arrested is related in some way to Craig Meehan, the stepfather.
Check out www.sky.com/news
Lets hope this outcome becomes the same for the McCanns, and Madeleine is found well and SOON!
Thank you for your very special gifts, God Bless.

Shannon Matthews found hiding under bed with her stepfather’s uncle
After disappearing 24 days ago, Shannon Matthews was found in the base of a bed in the home of Paul Drake

Shannon Matthews, whose disappearance sparked one of the biggest police searches in recent years
When officers arrived at No 26 Lidgate Gardens shortly before midday yesterday, it was initially just another door-knock in their painstaking search for Shannon Matthews.
The resident — the uncle of Shannon’s stepfather, and part of the door-to-door trawl of anyone who might be known to the girl — appeared not to be at home.
They tried a downstairs flat, where a conversation with a neighbour provided the sudden breakthrough for which the Matthews family, their friends and the police force had been praying for three weeks.
Though Paul Drake, the resident, lived alone in the property in Batley Carr, the sound of a child’s footsteps had been heard lately.
Officers were told that Mr Drake — also known as Mick Donovan — never left the premises without his car, about which he was obsessive. They were led to believe that Mr Drake was still in the flat because his prized silver Peugot was parked in the street outside.
The two police officers decided they were dealing with more than a routine visit. Keeping an observation on the property, the officers called for an emergency back-up team. A battering ram was used to break down the door and officers burst into the house.
They immediately searched from room to room, and after hearing noises, uncovered Shannon, hidden within the base of a double divan bed. Alongside Shannon, in the other half of the cavity, was Mr Drake. The 24-day search was over.
Neighbours described how Shannon appeared calm as she was carried from the scene, with no apparent sign of injury. Then Paul Drake emerged, dragged out in handcuffs to awaiting back-up officers and a volley of pent-up anger from local residents.
As word got out into the community, Karen Matthews, Shannon’s mother, was told of her daughter’s safe recovery by a neighbour, Peter Brown, a short time after.
“She just froze. She was in shock. Then her reaction was crying,” said Mr Brown. “After that, she had a phone call from the police liaison officer. They came to pick her up. Karen and Craig [Shannon's stepfather] both left the house together. We are going to have a party tonight.”
Shannon disappeared 24 days ago after returning to Westmoor Primary School in Dewsbury from a swimming trip. It led to one of the largest investigations mounted by the West Yorkshire force, involving up to 300 detectives, more than a tenth of the force’s strength.
Amanda Hyett, Shannon’s aunt, sobbed as she said: “I am so pleased she has been found. We just need her home now. I just want to say thank you to everyone that helped.”
Ms Hyett was with Shannon’s mother and stepfather when the news came through that the girl had been found safe and well. “We were all howling on the stairs with complete joy,” she said.
It is understood that Mr Drake — said to be the brother of Craig Meehan’s mother, Alice Meehan — has two daughters aged 10 and 12 who were taken into care some years ago. Alice Meehan, 49, last night revealed that he was arrested in 2004 when he took his oldest daughter from school. She said Mr Drake lost his own children three years ago after a split from his wife.
“I can’t believe he had Shannon, my own brother, it feels like he has brought shame on our family. I’m sure there’s no way he would have hurt her. He was missing his kids.”
She said Mr Drake had custody of his children but was eventually deemed unfit and no longer saw them: “This killed him.”
As news spread of the nine-year-old’s safe return, people emerged on to the streets of Dewsbury and Batley to celebrate, with lager and wine.
Mandy Dixon, 37, described how police descended on Lidgate Gardens. Officers battered their way through the blue door opening on to stairs up to the maisonette flat. A plainclothes officer brought Shannon out first.
She said: “A neighbour shouted out, ‘Is that Shannon?’ and they said, ‘Yes, it is’. I could not see Shannon’s face, she was covered up. She was clinging to the officer for dear life.”
Another neighbour, David Hughes, 46, a former soldier, whose flat overlooks the suspect’s home, said: “They busted in the door at about 1.30pm and later they dragged him out. He was cuffed to two police officers. They ordered him to obey their commands but he refused, curling his legs underneath him as if he did not want to go. He was crying and whingeing.
“Shannon came out with two police officers. She looked OK. I would say quite calm. She was dressed in a dark blue jacket and trousers.
“I could see it was Shannon. This episode has left us all so incredibly happy that she is going home alive and well.”
Residents on the estate expressed astonishment that they could have been living so close to the missing girl for so long. One said: “It is so shocking that she could have been such a short distance away for the last three weeks without us knowing. There has been no sight or sound of this little girl.”
People in the estate, which is mixed between Asian and white working class, spoke of a loner who hardly ever emerged from the flat.
Ashraf Dadhiwak, a newsagent, 51, said: “I have not seen him for a year. He is a loner who used to come into the shop with his two daughters. He did not look as if he was all there, if you know what I mean.He looked ill to me, certainly not healthy, and had the appearance of someone frightened of something.”
A resident, who did not want to be named, said the daughters were taken into carewhen his wife was unwell and he couldn’t look after them. “I thought he had left the area but maybe he came back recently. A neighbour came to tell me there were police in the street and said the woman in the flat downstairs had called the police. Apparently she heard a child’s footsteps and knew he did not have any children so she was suspicious.”
Last night a large area of the estate surrounded by a grassy knoll was cordoned off by scenes-of-crime tape.
A yellow telephone directory lay unrecovered on the porch and shabby curtains in the upstairs windows had a pattern with the words “biker boy”.
Inside, forensic science experts began their painstaking work which will continue this morning.
A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “As part of ongoing investigations, detectives and specialist search officers attended a house at Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr, Dewsbury, at 12.30pm this afternoon.
“During a search of the house, officers located Shannon Matthews who was found concealed in the base of a divan bed. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of abduction at the address and is currently in custody at a West Yorkshire police station. Shannon is currently in the care of West Yorkshire Police.”

Hi Brian,
Please check out A and B below after you have read my intro:
I thought I would share with you an anecdote I was told on sharing the news of Shannon Matthews being found alive . In the public house they were all waiting around excitedly for the Cheltenham Gold Cup Race to begin when there was a NEWSFLASH announcing the Great Race would be delayed as they had BREAKING NEWS to impart. The News of Shannon being found alive SENT THE PUB IN AN UPROAR - everyone was EUPHORIC! -no moans about the long-awaited Race being delayed ! And this is hours and many miles away from where Shannon lives. Can you imagine what it must be like in her area? I thought I would share this atmosphere with you and I hope you have a bottle out and are celebrating. YOU DESERVE IT!!! It is not often we get such wonderful news. You must be EUPHORIC. YOU ARE FANTASTIC AND A FABULOUS HUMAN BEING AND THIS SHOULD SEND ANY DOUBTS AS TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING- AWAY INTO THE DARk RECESSES AND CORNERS WHERE THEY BELONG. BRIAN YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!
A
1. You said she might be with an uncle- and this man is her great step-uncle.
2.You also drew a red-brick house
3. And said something about her possibly being in an apartment/flat if I recall correctly?
4. You said she would be found
As yet we do not know why she was with this man. It could be that she asked him to hide her as she was allegedly scared to go home. In addition she allegedly had bruises on her arm and was sent home by her uncle?
Therefore it is not clear yet whether this man (her great step-uncle was acting as a FRIEND OR FOE? If he is found to have been acting as a friend then your DD concerning the FRIEND part will also be true.
I think they said the house number was 26- I think you had a 6 in one of your DDs?
She was also found I think approximately 1 mile away from her home. You also mention in DD something re it being near her home.
What are your feelings at present on this matter Brian?

I know you may think the tabloids are not as brilliant as others but I find if I check most of them some snippets of information can sometimes be useful.
There is also a map where Shannon was found:
Donovan is said to be the brother of Craig Meehan’s mother Alice Meehan.
At one stage Craig lived at the family home in School Lane, Dewsbury but left to live with Shannon’s mother.
His father Brian Meehan also lived at the flat but neighbours said he died at Christmas time.
Today police were guarding the Meehan’s home and neighbours said that Mrs Meehan and a man who was now living there left about a week ago.
"She lived there for about five years and after her husband died, another man moved in," said one woman.
"Just a few days ago, they just left without telling anyone what was happening or where they were going."
He said the police had been at the flat for two days and a forensic team had been inside for several hours.

If only the family had checked out your site ( I am presuming they have not or did and missed these vital clues) Shannon would have been found sooner. Most Shannon Matthews ‘tip-offs’ were waste of time, officers reply to critics
Andrew Norfolk
Police hit back last night at criticism that detectives missed vital clues that should have led them more quickly to the house where Shannon Matthews was found.
Since the nine-year-old was discovered on Friday several residents have come forward to claim that they provided information that West Yorkshire Police allegedly failed to act upon. A source close to the investigation has told The Times that some of the so-called tip-offs were baseless, while others contained inadequate information. Suggestions that Mick Donovan, the man being held on suspicion of Shannon’s abduction, should in any case have been a higher priority for investigation are also dismissed by force insiders.
Details have emerged of the scale and complexity of the inquiry that was launched after the girl was reported missing on February 19. In addition to the intensive search that was carried out by hundreds of uniformed officers in Dewsbury Moor and surrounding areas, from day one a team of 60 detectives began to amass a list of potential suspects in the locality.
Separate teams, each split into smaller units, focused on members of Shannon’s extended family and known or suspected sex offenders living in or near Dewsbury. Where the same name appeared on both lists, as happened in several cases, those individuals were inevitably treated as the highest priority for intense scrutiny.
Almost 1,400 registered sex offenders live within a 20-mile radius of Shannon’s home. To that list was added the names of historic sex offenders whose convictions predated the creation of the register in 1997, plus those who had been arrested on suspicion of sex offences but not convicted.
Drawing up a list of the many hundred members of the missing girl’s extended family proved such a complex task that it had not even been completed before the child was found.
Shannon’s mother, Karen Matthews, has seven children by five different fathers, plus a number of former partners. Added to her relatives, plus her boyfriends’ and children’s fathers’ close relatives, were the relatives of Shannon’s natural father, Leon Rose, and her stepfather, Craig Meehan, 22.
The Times understands that several people who formed part of Shannon’s extended family had criminal convictions for a wide variety of offences, some of them – but not Mr Donovan – for sex crimes involving children.
Police also wanted to search each of the 600 homes along the route that Shannon would normally have taken between Westmoor Junior School, where she was last seen, and her red-brick council home. A further 2,800 addresses lie within a half-mile radius of the child’s home.
Against that background police were also dealing with more than 2,000 tip-offs from members of the public. Some were crank calls, some of malicious intent and some were genuine, but often far too vague.
Police sources have dismissed at least one of the claimed tip-offs about Mr Donovan and his Lidgate Gardens flat as a fabrication. Another, in which Melvyn Glew, a neighbour, telephoned the charity Missing People, which passed on his information to the police, is said to have been too vague to justify immediate attention. Police sources told The Times that the only details they logged were that there was “a unnamed weirdo” at number 24 or 26 Lidgate Gardens and that the police ought to check him out.
An earlier tip, passing on suspicions about Mr Donovan’s overfamiliar behaviour with Shannon at a family funeral six weeks before her disappearance, is said to have joined a long list of allegations passed to the police about various relatives of the child.
The Times understands that Mr Donovan featured on the list of Shannon’s extended family tree and was due to be visited at some stage of the inquiry. He suddenly moved up the list because of information that came into police hands on Friday morning in the course of detectives’ dealings with another member of Shannon’s extended family. There had been no tip-off, police have emphasised, from anyone claiming to have heard the sound of a child’s footsteps in Mr Donovan’s flat.
A source told The Times: “You’ve got to remember that we started this inquiry with nothing. Shannon had vanished without trace. No one had seen anything. We’re very pleased with the way this investigation has been conducted. We put a system in place and there was a lot of slow, methodical work, but it has led to Shannon being recovered safe and well.”
reply
I think the police did an excellent job, and do not deserve treatment like this.
I also think that Shannon should decide where she wants to live, and it may take time for her to tell police what she knows...if she even does...I think this is a private matter, and should be kept that way.
If Shannon is forced to go back home, I believe she could go missing again. I also think that others arrests will be made in this case, and would not prejudge anyone at this time.

Hi Brian,
They have launched a website for Shannon Matthews :
Please look and analyse this site. I truly believe we need someone like you with your site to deal with all these missing cases. We need more input from the public and I believe people will be hesitant to contact sites like the above were they may feel any information they have is insignificant . However these people may just hold the missing link they have discovered by websleuthing and reporting it to the site . They need a site like yours. Why don't you link up with them and people will feel less inhibited about discussing things they may suspect or know about regardig Shannon Matthews case etc.

Hi, sorry for the delay, but I'm happy she was found.

Hi Brian
Great news on Shannon Matthews! Well done saying that she would be found & getting the location close.
Re your RVs on her, the 1st RV 22/2/08 with a long rectangular shape drawing, I was trying to figure that out a few nights ago & since the news of her being found, it could be the base of a bed as looks like its separated horizontally. A bed base like that has either draws or sliding doors to put sheets, blankets in etc, as you probably know..
Update below from the BBC, on the man they arrested who apparently goes by 2 different names & already known by police:
“Police found her hidden in the base of a divan bed in a house in Batley Carr, West Yorkshire, a mile from her home.
A man, 39, a distant relative of Shannon said locally to use two names - Paul Drake and Mick Donovan - has been arrested on suspicion of abduction. “
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_yorkshire/7296756.stm
Apparently neighbours hadn’t seen the man that was just arrested for a few years, then he came back recently & I read somewhere that there was a female visiting him that could possible be his sister (if the news got it correct) – perhaps that’s the Jill you mention. We’ll see anyway.
The brick house that looks more like apartments as you say on your RV, has nbr 6 next to it, but news are saying its nbr 26, but strange because the neighbour that reported to police hearing childrens footsteps from the raided apartment, the neighbour was from nbr 4. Numbers dont seem to link as being joined, 26 to 4 – your 6 sounds more likely, but we’ll see.
The nbr 478311629 cant be coordinates for that area, so must be a phone nbr I suppose, but on the 3rd RV the last 4 nbrs 1629 show again with the triangle next to it (you translate as 1627 but the last nbr is a 9). I wondered if 1629 is a time & CM seems to link with it, which must be the stepfather Craig Meehan that could be linked to the man arrested . Perhaps you keep mentioning the West High school meaning Craig Meehan & the arrested man were at the High School & wasn’t referring to Shannon’s school.
This is how close Shannon was found – by public transport it takes 3 minutes between Dewsbury & Batley - http://www.northernrail.org/pdfs/trackworks/4716_Leeds-Heb_Bdg.pdf - coincidently, there is a time 16:29 Dewsbury for Mon-Fri travel.
It seems a bit strange that web news state that the stepfather CM had been hitting Shannon (according to the mother’s parents & other kids in the family), although Craig Meehan denies it & another child of the mothers had a bruised stomach & even Shannon’s mother is seen on tv with a black eye.
I wonder if the mother is in one of those awful blind cases where she covers-up for the stepfather CM, in fear of being left alone, as it seems CM is supporting them all financially.
The mother’s parents said Shannon’s mother’s Karen
“turned up at her house on the day Shannon went missing saying she needed to talk. She said: "Karen had a black eye. She said she'd had an argument with Craig. It was clear she was upset.
"She told me she'd had a fall but I knew there was more to it. She'd been rowing with Craig that morning - all the kids would have seen that.
"She said she'd fallen against a cupboard but you don't get a shiner like that falling against a cupboard.
"I asked her if Craig had done it but she said 'no'. On the Monday night they'd had an argument.
"They fight a lot. I asked if they'd had a row and she said it was just a tiff, she always covers up for him.
Possible contradictions here from Shannon’s mother Karen & sounds like she is covering for CM, but I maybe wrong :
“Mr Meehan was on a day off from his job as a supermarket fishmonger and Miss Matthews had been at a friend’s house when Shannon failed to return home. A tearful Miss Matthews said: “When I got back. I asked Craig where she was and he said he hadn’t seen her. Craig went out to have a look about 6.30pm and when he came back we rang police.
“They (were) very close on Monday night they were having a tickle fight. She was more of a daddy’s girl than mum’s girl and they spent a lot of time together.
"They watched telly together and they would cuddle up together. She saw him as a dad and more as a father figure.”
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/02/23/nmissing123.xml
And more misleading info In other news, where CM said :
“I was working on the Monday night before she went missing so I don't know if she came home upset. I work stupid hours a day so I couldn't do it anyway and I wouldn't.
So where are the kids bruises coming from, as well as the mothers black eye & who is doing the lying?
If what you say on your RV is correct, that Shannon “was going to tell on him” (CM) no wonder she was scared & didn’t want to go home & begging her uncle if she could stay with him.. Who knows the man arrested may have been trying to protect her, after her finding somewhere to stay. But of course the obvious thing is to hand her over to the authorities, after such a search for her. Or did he abduct her?
We’ll see how the story unfolds anyway. At least she’s been found alive.
Speak soon
Kind regards

Hi Brian,
hope you and your family are well,
this dream DD6550, showing the double bed, could be related to the disappearance of Shannon Matthews UK. As you will probably be aware she was found in one side of the base of a divan bed along side Mick Donovan her supposed abductor, in his flat. The sheet could have been touching the floor to hide them as much as possible. You write 'Talk to her', which is strange as there is no-one in the bed in the drawing, but if you talk to a hidden person they will still hear you. It is a strange dream to have and a great coincidence to this case!
Keep up the good work Brian!

Hello Janet, I have not received a reply back from any of my requests...for this case, #347 and my pending list.
I hope Madeleine is alive, and I personally have not had a dream that has stated otherwise. I will try again, but I'm still getting the same thing...so the answer to your question would be yes...but saying yes does not mean I'm 100% sure...the only thing I'm sure of is that a search needs to take place in PDL.

Shannon Stepdad On Child Porn Charges
The stepfather of Shannon Matthews, the schoolgirl who went missing for 24 days, has been charged with 10 offences of possessing indecent images of children.
Craig Meehan, 22, was arrested at Shannon's home in Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, and will appear before Dewsbury Magistrates' Court later this morning.

Charged: Craig Meehan
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 22-year-old man has been charged with 10 specimen offences of possession of indecent images of children.
"In relation to the welfare of the family's children, it is being dealt with by social services.
"Police policy is we are not commenting on the welfare of the children."
Shannon was found hidden in the base of a bed in a flat just one mile from her home after a dramatic 24-day search by police.
She has been in the care of social services since she was discovered at the flat in Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr, on March 14.
Meehan's uncle, Michael Donovan, 39, who lived at the flat in Batley Carr, was charged with her kidnap and imprisonment.
His trial has been provisionally set for November 11 at Leeds Crown Court.
Fishmonger Meehan has lived with Shannon's mother Karen Matthews, 32, in Moorside Road for around five years.
They share the house with three of Mrs Matthews' children, including Shannon, and the couple's own two-year-old daughter.
Morning Brian,
This piece is in todays papers about the man who was with Shannon. I read that you wanted to know a bit about the man...... Sounds aweful... if true.
Keep up the good work , keep smiling,God Bless you and the familly

Shannon man's vile sex secrets
Ex-wife reveals how he tried to strangle and smother her
By Neville Thurlbeck
The ex-wife of Shannon Matthews' kidnap suspect has revealed he secretly fantasised about sex with children.
In an exclusive interview Sue Bird told how Mick Donovan's sick lust was sensationally exposed when horrified teachers found graphic sex notes he'd put in his own DAUGHTER'S lunch box.
He was then BARRED from seeing 12-year-old Jane and sister Mary, aged 10, but SNATCHED them from council care and hid away with them in Blackpool for three days.
Sue said: "On top of that he used to force me to dress up as a schoolgirl for sex. That's why none of this is a surprise to me.
"He's actually kidnapped before, just 18 months ago. This man is a real
nasty piece of work."
In an exclusive interview, Sue relived her seven years of hell atthe hands of the man who was hauled from his Dewsbury flat on Friday after police smashed their way in. They found nine-year-old Shannon hidden in the drawer under a divan bed. As West Yorkshire police gently questioned the youngster about her 24-day nightmare, Sue broke down and revealed she always had doubts about loner Donovan as he:
SPANKED her in bed while fantasising about being a kinky father or headmaster.
TRIED to STRANGLE her during one bizarre romp.
THREATENED to cut her throat unless she walked ten miles to get him drugs.
ENJOYED beating her black and blue—especially in bed.
Sue, 37, said: "Mick was a walking, ticking time bomb.
"He's so horrible, something like this was bound to happen. If he could kidnap his own children, he could kidnap anyone.
"When I heard little Shannon had been taken I was sick to the pit of my stomach. And I knew in my heart that it could have been Mick."
Sue insists 39-year-old Donovan— uncle to Shannon's stepdad Craig Meehan—had an unhealthy interest in children right from the start of their relationship in 1990.
"When he made me dress like a schoolgirl he'd want me in knee-high white socks, flat shoes and a tight top," she said.
"I had to tie my hair up in plaits. And always no make-up, to complete the schoolgirl look.
Knife
"If I was wearing make-up, he'd make me go and wash it off.
"His nickname for me was ‘Toots' and schoolgirl sex was always his fantasy. He'd often want it twice a day.
"He'd spank my bottom during sex, too. He loved being in control. He said he loved feeling like a ‘father or headmaster' in bed.
"I went along with it because he was very dominating and violent.
"Sometimes, his violence would spill over into our lovemaking. He was having sex with me once when for no reason, he started strangling me. I could feel his hands tightening around my neck, so I pushed him as hard as I could and he fell off the bed.
"I really thought I'd had it. But he just put on his dressing gown and walked out of the bedroom.
"After that I started sleeping with a knife under the mattress. I honestly thought he'd kill me one day.
"He was really horrible, an obsessive compulsive man who had to be in control all the time—especially in a sexually violent way."
Sue, who suffered years of brutal beatings at the hands of the 5ft 6in, nine-stone Donovan, then recalled the terrifying moment when her worst fears nearly came true.
"A sixth sense woke me up," she said. "We'd gone to bed after a row and I suddenly awoke to find him straddling me and about to smother me with a pillow.
"I fought him off and he backed away, claiming he'd done it in his sleep. I never slept with him again after that. I stayed downstairs with a chair against the door.
"He was addicted to opiates, and when he was high he wanted sex all the time. But when he was off them, he used to have black moods and that's when he'd attack me. Anything would set him off. He used to punch me, kick me and slap me.
"He's broken my cheekbone and bust my nose several times. I always had cut lips and bruised ribs."
Although scrawny, Donovan has immense strength, says Susan.
"Once when the police came round to sort out a fight, he went ballistic," she said. "There were five hefty policemen and it took them all to pin him down.
Berserk
"He had a ferocious temper and it gave him superhuman strength."
Sue then recounted the chilling moment when, starved of drugs, Donovan threatened her with an eight-inch carving knife.
She said: "He knew my grandad had some powerful painkillers he was taking for his cancer so he wanted me to walk the ten miles from Dewsbury to Bradford and back to get them.
"I refused and he went berserk. He grabbed me from behind, slammed me against the wall and thrust the tip of the knife into my throat. I thought I was going to die. He looked me in the eyes and yelled, ‘Just do it girl!'
"So I did and my grandad handed the drugs over because he knew I'd get a beating if he didn't."
Susan first met met Donovan during a hospital visit to her mother in 1990. He was a fantasist who had changed his name from Paul Drake in honour of his TV idol, former Neighbours star and singer Jason Donovan.
The pair moved to Bradford where they married after Susan gave birth to their first daughter Jane in May, 1995.
(We have changed the names of both Donovan's children to protect their identities.)
Then just seven weeks after the birth of second daughter Mary in June, 1997, Susan was forced to flee Donovan for good.
Police had been called to the family home SEVEN times to deal with his violence but Sue always dropped charges.
But if she feared for herself, she was terrified for elder daughter Jane, with whom he had a worrying obsession. Susan felt unable to trust him alone with her. She said: "Something happened to Mick after Jane was born. He got very obsessive with her in an unnatural way.
"He was always interested in changing the girls' nappies. He delighted in it and took ages over it. It used to make my skin crawl.
"I couldn't relax around him or fully trust him with our children.
"There was something not quite right about him.
"As soon as we had the girls he became overpoweringly controlling and demanding.
Worried
"He'd take Jane out from 9am in the morning and not bring her back till 9pm at night. I was sick with worry.
"But he intimidated me so much I was afraid to go out in public with him. And I was shocked when we finally split and he said, ‘You're not taking Jane—but you can keep that thing!'—referring to our Mary."
For the next two years Sue lobbied social services to have Jane removed from Donovan. "I was really worried about her but they didn't seem to take me seriously," she said. Worse was to come. Susan became so depressed by her plight that in late 1998 she was admitted to hospital after a nervous breakdown.
"That's when social services let Mick have Mary, too," she said.
"Now both my daughters were under his control. I was bouncing off the walls with worry that he'd do something."
Finally social services acted in 2000, took both girls from Donovan and, with mum Sue still too depressed to care for them they were placed in a foster home. But their father still had access—until the scandal of the lunch box sex notes.
Sue, who now lives in Cornwall, last saw Jane in 1996 and Mary in 1998. They are being looked after by social services.
Sue told us: "My mental health deteriorated because of Mick. Much to my regret, I was in no fit state to look after the girls as I was in and out of hospital."
Sue's four other children by two other partners all live with their fathers.
She told us: "I can imagine how Shannon's parents are feeling right now because I've been through exactly the same fears.
"I just feel so sorry for Shannon. I wish something had been done about him earlier then maybe this wouldn't have happened.
"I'm so glad she's been found but I feel sick thinking about what he could have done to her.
"I don't believe that poor girl was there of her own free will.
"That man is sick. What would a 39-year-old man want with a nine-year-old girl?
"I just want to tell her family how sorry I am. I feel guilty that I didn't do enough to take this man off the streets earlier.
"I knew that something like this could happen but nobody would listen to me.
"I never want to see that creature Donovan again and I wish I'd never set eyes on him.
"He's the most destructive person I've ever met. The law and social services should have seen this coming long ago."
Hi Brian,
It's been confirmed, she's alive and safe thank god.

Hi Brian
Glad your better I know you don’t make any money from your website but it must be nice to have so many people who care about you.
"west high -- stop -- she was going to tell on him - she told her friend - not police -- he did not know - go to high school"
I think the first half of this DD might refer to the mother of Shannon Matthews and the last half refer to Michael Donovan that he wasn’t told in time by her that the plan was off and took Shannon home.
The following exert from an article leads me to think this
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1013668.ece
“She allegedly blurted out: “I knew where she was all the time.”
Karen has told cops the background lay in a plan to leave her partner of four years, supermarket fishmonger Craig Meehan, 22.
She claims the man accused of snatching Shannon – Craig’s uncle Michael Donovan, 39 – had offered her a place to live.
She had packed clothes but at the last minute “bottled out” and stayed put.
Police are now investigating whether at that point on February 19 Donovan had already picked up Shannon from school.
Panicking Karen reported she had gone missing on the way home – then watched in horror as the search escalated. “

Hi Brian an update on this case. Her mother and great uncle have been sentanced for her abduction. According to a UK documentary she had been drugged for 18months prior to her abduction using a range of drugs to include temazepam & an anti travel sickness drug. She was kept quiet whilst being held with drugs and strapped to a beam whilst her abductor left the flat (so she could access the toilet but not escape). According to thie article below she was moments away from death.

Hi Brian
Hope all is well with you & family. I can see by your missing persons cases that you are very busy. Some of those located, your DDs were quite impressive.
Update: Shannon Matthews mother, Karen Matthews & ex live-in boyfriend Craig Meehan’s uncle, Michael Donovan, were in court today & the case will continue for about 4 weeks. Hopefully we will then hear the truth about the whole case of Shannon Matthews supposed abduction.
I’m wondering if, the name Jill / J, & other info that was on your DDs linked with this case, will come up somewhere eventually – we’ll see.
Schoolgirl Shannon Matthews was drugged and tied to a roof beam after her mother hatched a £50,000 fake kidnap scam, a court has heard.
“Donovan used a strap found tied to a roof beam to restrain Shannon when he left the flat to go shopping. The strap was discovered "knotted on to the roof beam"
